York Region has an immensely increasing population, which in 2009 alone expanded by 20,600 people, making the total projected population 1,032,600. To accommodate for this population boost there was a big push in construction whereby 6,486 new homes were completed. The population is expected in increase steadily over the next few years, as more housing developments are built to accommodate people who wish to live in the exciting array of cities and towns that York Region has to offer.
The boundaries for York Region, more formerly referred to as the Regional Municipality of York, rests south along Steeles Avenue, which divides York Region from the City of Toronto Boundary; the east border runs York-Durham Regional Road 30 (York-Durham Line) and Regional Road 32 (Ravenshoe Road); the west boundary goes the length of York Regional Road 24 (or Peel Regional Road 50); the north border goes along Highway 9 and Holland River. Part of the Greater Toronto Area and the inner ring of the Golden Horseshoe, York Region abounds with 2,075 hectares of regional forest, natural terrain made up of farming communities, marshland, and kettle lakes, the famed Oak Ridges Moraine, not to mention the expanding nine municipalities of Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Transportation is a breeze in York Region. Highway access to and from York Region is plentiful as major highways--401, 400, 404, 407 and 7—run throughout the region. Pearson International Airport is an estimated 45-minute drive from the center of York Region. For close air access needs, Buttonville Airport can be reached in an estimated 20-minutes. There is a rapid transit service called Viva that connects York Region’s local bus transit system with Toronto, which provides a unified regional transit service. GO transit is another transportation option. The Barrie and Richmond Hill line services central York Region and has stations in Aurora, East Guillembury, Newmarket and York University.
There are currently 180 public schools in operation by the York Region District School Board. Additionally, there are 95 schools managed by the York Catholic District School board. There are many more education options to choose from: Private, Montessori, Jewish, Islamic and Daycare are available throughout York Region.
